What HandyConvert is, and the decisions it does not replace.
Last updated: 2 June 2026
In one sentence
HandyConvert is a free reference toolkit. The results it returns are estimates for general information and planning, calculated with the formulas and sources documented on the Methodology page. They are not professional advice in any regulated field, and they are not certified measurements for any permit, contract, or safety-critical application. Verify everything you intend to act on, with the professional or authority that has jurisdiction over the decision.
For trades, building, and construction
The trades tools (fraction calculator, future electrical reference tools, future HVAC tools, future plumbing tools) are reference utilities only. They are not engineering design software, not electrical code-compliance tools, and not load-rating instruments. Any decision that affects structural integrity (load-bearing members, footings, lintels), electrical code compliance for permitted work, gas or fuel piping, pressure vessels, life safety, or fall protection belongs to a licensed engineer, master electrician, plumbing inspector, or other credentialed professional working from the local code in force. Always verify dimensions against your actual materials and your local building authority before you cut, drill, fasten, or pour. The Canadian National Building Code and the Quebec Régie du bâtiment (RBQ) requirements take precedence over any number this site returns. United States users should consult the International Building Code, the National Electrical Code, and their local jurisdiction.
For finance and mortgages
The mortgage calculator and mortgage comparison tool return estimates of monthly payment, total interest, total cost, and equity over time, computed with the formulas documented on the Methodology page. They are not personalised financial advice and they are not a quote, a pre-approval, or an offer of credit. Actual interest rates, qualifying ratios, insurance premiums, and amortization terms are set by lenders and insurers and vary by borrower, property, region, and date. CMHC and PMI premium estimates are illustrative — your lender will provide the binding figure. Tax implications, mortgage portability, prepayment penalties, and renewal mechanics are not modelled. Before signing any mortgage commitment, confirm every number with a licensed mortgage broker, your lender, and a qualified accountant or financial planner who has reviewed your personal situation. HandyConvert does not offer, broker, underwrite, or insure mortgages, and does not receive a commission on any mortgage transaction.
For cooking and recipe scaling
The cooking tools (recipe scaler, pan substitution, ingredient density, cocktail batch scaler) help with arithmetic. They do not address food safety, allergens, doneness temperatures, cross-contamination, fermentation hazards, or alcohol responsibility. Always cook to safe internal temperatures (refer to the USDA or Health Canada published minimums), label allergens accurately, and serve alcohol responsibly. The estimated ABV reported by the cocktail batch scaler is informational; legal drinking age and serving limits are determined by the local jurisdiction.
Limits and exclusions
HandyConvert tools are not intended for use in any safety-critical, life-supporting, medical, structural, load-bearing, navigational, or aviation application. They are not certified instruments for trade measurement, regulatory submission, or expert evidence. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, HandyConvert and the person operating it are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages — including loss of materials, time, money, data, opportunity, or goodwill — arising from your use of the site or any reliance on its results. You use the site and its tools at your own risk. The Terms of Use govern all use of HandyConvert; this disclaimer supplements but does not replace them.
